12 Honors Website Evaluation

Hello-
You are to pick a website you like and evaluate the effectiveness of the message and the design.
Essentially, you are to look at the rhetorical devices used by the website to convey its message. Look at ethos, pathos, logos, tone, diction, imagery, metaphor, theme, and anything else you deem important.
Write a one page, typed, doubled spaced, analysis of the website focusing on the message and the design using these rhetorical devices. Also, put the web address on the top of the page so I can link to it in class.
Ideally you might want to look at a website that promotes an issue- whether local, state, national or international. For example- The A.S.P.C.A. website we looked at in class. But you can also look at any website you want- like Becky will most likely choose Lady GaGa…
This is due Tuesday.

I Owe U- An article you should concerning student loans

I just read this article in this week’s Time magazine and I thought it would be interesting for you to read and think about. I think you should forward it to your parents as well. Student loans have changed the way students go to school- both in positive and negative ways. On the one hand they allow for more students to have access, but the dark side of them are explored in this article. A must read for all of you that are going to college next year and don’t have the luxury of being a part of the 1%.

Motivation

We watched an RSAnimate yesterday about motivation by Daniel Pink. I thought it would be interesting to all of you to find out what actually motivates us. The truth being that it really isn’t money but that it stems from autonomy, mastery, and purpose. It appears that most people have great ideas they want to share about particular subject and that people (management/teachers) should just get out of the way and let you do what you want.

WELL… Here goes. I am going to get out of your way and let you do something. Your assignment is to do something that relates to literature/English. It has to be able to be presented to the class and me. It also must show some rigor- i.e.- it needs to look like you put some time and thought into it. I know that the lack of parameters scares some of you but I want you to do the best you can. I have to re-think how I am going to grade you on this- maybe I won’t- but more than likely it will be pass/fail.

I am interested and excited to see what you guys are going to come up with. Think divergently!
